I have set up this cause, as I strongly believe in doing right by people and unfortunately we live in a world where not everyone shares those same beliefs. Currently, there are several men and women sitting in prisons, because of their beliefs in doing right by the people and the planet we live on. I feel this completely unjustified, because if it was not for people like them, no-one would truly know about the damages being done that greatly affect our resources. These people are willing to give up their freedom in order for us to live our lives and punishing them for taking action against things that are harming us, is completely unacceptable in my opinion.
It is easy for others to say, “throw them in jail”, but sending them to prison is not going to accomplish anything and often when people make statements such as those, they have NO idea what harm they are really doing to these people in the long run. Prison, just like anything else, is a publicly funded institution that generates an income and very profitable one at that. They are not interested in rehabilitating anyone, infact they often look for ways to keep people in prison, because they do make such a substantial amount of profit from individuals.
Unlike contrary beliefs, everything in prison is not free, in British Columbia alone, phone calls cost 95 cents per 30 minute call, $1.50 if you call collect and this only applies to provincial prisons. If you are sent to a federal prison, you MUST call collect and are charged by the minute.
